How to get from Nice to Eze

Èze is a beautiful town perched above the coast on a cliff with narrow winding streets and picturesque viewpoints to explore. When we visited in October it was a beautiful sunny day and not too crowded although Eze has grown in popularity recently so don’t expect it to be empty any time of year. While Èze is close to Nice it’s easy to take the wrong transportation and add unnecessary time and effort to your journey. Here’s all the ways you can get to Èze from Nice:

By Bus:

The best (and cheapest) way to get to Èze from Nice is by bus. The train is a popular option for day trips from Nice, but if you want to go to Èze village don’t take the train. Instead take bus 82 or 602 for only €1.70 and you’ll be there in 30 minutes. The route starts at Vauban bus station which is also conveniently a tram stop, but you can also see if there is a stop on the route near where you are staying. This is a popular trip so it can be a good idea to get on at the bus station to ensure you get a seat. If possible, sit on the right side of the bus for the best views. Our driver even slowed down at a particularly beautiful viewpoint so we could see better.. Make sure you have your rechargeable card to pay the fare otherwise it’s €4 if you purchase from the driver.

By Train:

It may seem like a good idea to take the train, but unless you feel like hiking up to Èze we wouldn’t recommend it. The train station is Eze-sur-mer which is next to the beach and way below the mountain top town. If you find yourself at the Eze-sur-mer train station you have two options: hike to the village or take a bus 83 up to the village (plus maybe a third option to just spend the day at the beach instead). If you do want to hike up or check out the beach below the village the train takes about 15 minutes and costs €3.60 one way from Nice Ville. We hiked down to the train station from Eze thinking it would be a nice hike and we’d enjoy the views, but it took so long and was very hot and sunny even in October. I can’t imagine trying to hike up so definitely be prepared with water and snacks if you do decide to hike.

By car:

Driving to Eze is quick and easy from Nice and only takes about 20 minutes, but parking is another story. Like much of the French Riviera there aren’t many options for parking near Eze and the few options fill up fast. If you do plan on driving make sure you arrive early or plan on driving around looking for a spot for a while.
